Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company Ltd (AUMTCO) was established by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in 1984 as Abuja Bus Service (ABS) and registered on 13th November 1989 as Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company Ltd.  The mission of the company is to provide effective, safe, regular, efficient and affordable urban public transport services for the FCT and environs.

Urban public transportation is one of the most durable components of urban life, its sustainability is therefore sacrosanct.  This sub-sector of the transport industry invariably remains one of the most important policy thrusts for governments of major cities around the world.

The injection of this additional 100 city buses to the fleet of Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company marks an important step in the transformation efforts of Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.  These buses are built on the latest low floor technology that adequately satisfies the accessibility needs of the physically challenged.  It further demonstrates the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to the delivery of efficient and effective urban passenger transport services to residents of the FCT.  The overall fleet size of AUMTCO is planned to increase relative to the population growth patterns in the FCT.

AUMTCO is now poised to compliment the efforts of the FCT Administration by the provision of an organized and modern urban public transport system for the city with scheduled services, good interconnectivity, electronic ticketing, passenger travel information systems as dictated by the operating environment.

These efforts will ultimately play a significant role in shaping the patterns of growth in the city, facilitating economic prosperity and shaping the environmental and general character of our great city and its communities in harmony with the transformation agenda of Mr. President.
